LETS STOP USING THE OLD MODEL IMMEDIATELY! We need to realize that we are trying to think backwards every time we use this... I have pasted a picture of what a keyboard REALLY should look like. THAT'S HOW IT SHOULD BE! Not the >confused< way we find it now.
WE NEED TO STOP THE CURRENT MODEL. There is no need for it. From what I understand, we are using a keyboard made to slow > US < down. And this, apparently, was made to keep up with QWERTY keyboards when PCs made their apparition. There is NO GOOD REASON TO THINK like that anymore. People using typewriters have basically switched over to computers. For the most part.
We are talking about 1-2 weeks, to switch over our brains to THE WAY IT SHOULD BE.
I propose that the people who write the UBUNTU software, put the little time needed to make a driver for the new keyboard. Everybody should go to this address https://ubuntu.com/keyboards to get the drivers, if you decide. I hope you don't mind if I put the address... It is a tiny peace of software that I believe should take 1 full day to get finished. Its really fast.
Now, for PC manufacturers, what you see here, is basically all that is needed to now. A side from the printed symbols on the keys... It just changing the files and getting the right files for production.
For me, it was not difficult. I have one functional arm and at took me 10 minutes to do the change. The keyboard you have may be different and have a different shape from one letter to the other. For me, it was all the same shape. BUT I am not telling you to try, go get yourself a NEW keyboard at the store. Its better to go that way... When they get the Next-Gen keyboards.
Now, we should come up with a STANDARD keyboard. There's no need for different keyboards (aside from the language). We need to keep things >SIMPLE<. So, I don't know how much in involved, but a BASIC keyboard should be what we should expect...
